anatomy of :: the sandal obsession.

There is no denying my extreme current sandal obsession, and basically everyone else residing in the Southern Hemisphere. No other footwear is so all-purpose – they are encouraged for wear at the beach, accepted at high-profile events, and cheered for the everyday.

Besides your Saltwater sandals and Birkenstocks, every pair seems a little different. Brands create their own take on the classic, moulding it to suit their ethos and style rules. Choose some bling or keep it minimal, gladiator or old school.

You could be wearing a mediocre outfit of black jeans and worn-too-many-times shirt, add on the sandals, and it’s summer. Instant. Maybe that’s why we love them so much – more than the comfort and freedom factor, it’s the summer feels. It’s not warm weather until your toes are happy to be on show without turning blue or falling off. The bikini of the feet region.

Here are just a few of my most favourite, recently tagged obsessions:

– Michael Kors – espadrille meets sandal for the perfect multi-purpose holiday footwear

Marni – so summery in their burnt orange glory

Coach – classic woven style made modern with a burst of colour

Nanushka – of course – you’ve heard it all before
