anatomy of :: all black.

It’s not unusual to hear one comment on their wardrobe as an all black, colourless affair. Normally for good reason too – it looks great on everyone, is easy to wear, and absolutely timeless. Maybe this is the next stage of sustainable wearing, just buy black everything – then you can reuse and reassemble to your hearts content. Because it’s black, no one will even know. Our secret.

Personally I can’t manage it, wearing just noir would seriously affect my mood, create an even more tumultuous affair than normal. I’m overjoyed at a black jeans and top combo, but that’s as far as it goes, we need some colour gal. A scarf, some fruity nail polish, or a billion bangles. Something to add a touch of happiness and life.

If I wore my mood on my sleeve each day, in the literal way, the world would be sorry for it. Glum old Hannah on those unbearable days would tear you down with just one look at the black on black on black – the modern day Medusa. So really, I’m doing you a favour by injecting some colour.

The best thing I’ve heard recently came from Sarah Silverman: “If you live in the past that’s depression, and if you live in the future that’s anxiety. So you have no choice but to live in the present.”

How’s the colour sitch in your world?
