I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I would do if we ever moved rural. And by rural I mean beautiful beach town with sufficient young people to allow friends, at least one quality cafe, and boutiques close enough. Me moving to a retiree town full of wild language would be a mistake.
In my current line of work, jobs would be rare, and more dreadfully, super drab. I could happily work in a cafe part time, but then what else? I’ve developed a highly ambitious self in life, varying from the ambition to purely sit on the beach all day, get fit or conquer the world with some groundbreaking fashion-y business (yet to be determined and dreamed of).
But the country gives me clarity and a breath of fresh air – needed more often than my quarterly weekend getaway. I would be more relaxed, I’d have time to think and create freely without the strains of a hectic life schedule and looming deadlines. Another pace of life that is so difficult to achieve in the big smoke – only managed by those who have a very special sense of self and passion.
Sometimes I find myself wondering what life would be like if I had grown up in such a town – more creative? More chill? Better surfer? Probably. Or maybe this is all just another trap led by the grass always seeming greener on the other side.
I still haven’t come to a conclusion on the outcome of all this, but here’s a little label I discovered in Byron Bay (at the absolute dream of a place, The Farm – destined to live on the land), who are achieving just what I would like to set out to do. Sustainable and beautiful and perfectly smooth leather creations from St.Agni. Everything is produced using by-products (leather) from the meat industry, making sure every part of the animal is put to use. It is all just too perfect.
