Obviously Rei Kawakubo deserves masses of accolades right now. Not only for creating such a distinct brand in Comme des Garçons ( and all without formal fashion training ) and being an ultra-cool low-profile lady, but also for becoming the theme of next year’s Met Gala and famed exhibit – the only event I truly care for in terms of red carpet. Costume parties are way more interesting than a typical black tie.
What will they wear? A flashback through the years of Rei’s reign, starting way back in 1969 – the creation of true fashion meets art and designs focused more on individual feel than the outward appearance ( her original boutique in Tokyo featured zero mirrors – my kind of store…). Before that little heart face was splayed on t-shirts and sneakers everywhere.
